Polls are closed in New York’s special election to replace Representative Mike Lee after an Internet infidelity scandal. A traditionally Republican district, New York 26 appears to have elected Democrat Kathy Hochul (48%) in a three way race with Republican Jane Corwin (42%) and Tea Party candidate Jack Davis (12%) with 45% of precincts reporting.
The race has been considered a referendum of Paul Ryan’s end of Medicare budget proposal which Corwin publicly supported.
The Associated Press just called it for Hochul.
This could be the canary in the coal mine for future Republican races.
